About Toto
Toto was formed in 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro, David Paich (who at the time were also famous studio musicians with Boz Scaggs) and bassist/singer Bobby Kimball. Taking their name from the Latin word that means "all encompassing," the group was intent on exploring every style of music.
In 1981 Toto's third album Turn Back was a flop, but they rebound with their fourth album Isolation that features two hits, including the title track and Roseanna. The album and tour make them a household name throughout the world.
After a brief break, Toto returns with the album Fahrenheit. The album is an departure from the ballads that were featured on previous albums, and features some heavy rock. This was their first platinum album in North America.
In the course of recording the fifth album the group loses their manager and faces financial challenges. They decide to record a new album and change their name to an alternative producer. Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams, the legendary film composer and actress Barbara Ruick from 1950s, is now replacing Fergie Frederiksen as lead vocalist. Joseph is a more natural frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a much needed boost.
In 1999, the band released Mindfields and begins an extensive tour across the globe. After a few weeks in Europe The band then travels to Japan for sold-out shows. After a brief break, Toto resumes their recording and releases their first live album titled Absolutely Live in 1993. It also features a cover of Weezer’s song Hash Pipe as a response to the band's coverage of Africa during their recent tour. Toto's touring lineup is completed by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.
Music

Toto was the first album released by the band in 1978. It was a huge hit that helped the band gain international fame. Since then, the group has released 14 albums which have all been huge hits.
In 1984, Toto wrote their first, and to this date only, movie score for the film Dune. It was a huge undertaking and the entire band had to be involved. The album that came out, Kingdom of Desire, was a record that also had a great success. After a world tour, Bobby Kimball quit the band. He was replaced by Fergie Frederiksen, formerly of Le Roux. The band continued to push forward with their fifth album, Isolation. The album contained a variety of hits, such as "Stranger in Town".
After Isolation Toto went on absence. This gave the members of the group a chance to pursue solo projects. In 1996, the group reformed for a tour and album. It was the first time the original members took to the stage together for more than 10 years.
The next year, Toto toured with Ringo Starr's All Starr Band. This was the final time that all original members of Toto were performing together. The group broke up following this. However, Toto reunited in 2010 to benefit the ALS Foundation. It was the first time in 31 years that all of Toto's founding members performed together. The original members were joined by keyboardist Greg Tambu who filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate who filled in for Shem von Schroeck.
